Trautberg
‘Trucberch’ or ‘Trauperg’ is the old name of the Trautberg as shown in documents from the 13th century. Its location on the outskirts of the village may be the reason why, for hundreds of years, the Counts of Castell allowed their tithes men to work this vineyard. Similar to the vineyard Hohnart, the Trautberg is a small hill close to the Steigerwald. It is situated in a picturesque valley next to the former mill pond. Its Southerly and South-westerly slopes of easily warming schist clay offer premium condition for wine cultivation. The shallow layer of fertile soil leads to small but very concentrated grapes. The secluded location of the Trautberg vineyard keeps the warmth of the summer and autumn, leads to full ripeness of the grapes and gives them a harmonic level of acidity.
The Trautberg produces wines, which are dominated by aromas of pears, apricots and bananas underlined by an elegant harmonic structure. Especially in wetter and colder years, the Trautberg wines stand out with their full-bodied fruity characteristic. In addition to the Silvaner, we grow aromatic Traminer at the Trautberg, which, combined with the Silvaner, develops into an extraordinary Cuvee.
